Welcome to Denali National Park and Preserve. Alaska is home to 16 of America's national parks. Befitting the largest state in the union, Alaska's parks contain some two-thirds of the acreage of all national park units. It also holds the continent's tallest mountains, vast numbers of caribou, wolves, bald eagles, salmon, and marine mammals.
But this inheritance would be shortchanged if we only consider record book facts. Alaska's parks, like many in the lower-48, represent a common path of national heritage that belongs to all of us-whether we trace our roots to the earliest Native
