About Ben Layton
1998 - 2002
| | Ben's Red Swings Community Playground | |
Diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia shortly after he turned two years old, Ben Layton bravely battled the disease through chemotherapy, radiation and a bone marrow transplant. Sadly, all that medicine could offer was not enough to save Ben's young life. Aware that he was going to die, Ben daydreamed about the new life he would have after his death and was certain that he would receive not only angel wings, but reg angel wings - his favorite color. Ben received his wings on May 29, 2002, just three months after his fourth birthday.
Inspired by Ben's bravery and in celebration of his spirit, the Ben's Red Swings Community Playground idea was born. The red swings recall Ben's angel wings and will help all children who play here to share in the soaring joy of childhood.
