1. A Lasting Legacy Marker

Inscription. The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) was established by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1933 as a part of a relief effort during the Great Depression. Three million men were put to work in the CCC during its ten-year existent .
Integrity, hard work, and simple hand tools helped create the first 16 South Carolina State Parks. Myrtle Beach State Park was the first state park open in South Carolina on July 1, 1936. The CCC created a lasting legacy at this park as several buildings are still used by the public today.
Shelters 1 and 2 plus the single use shelters have helped create countless experiences for thousands of family reunions and picnickers over the years. Precious overnight memories have been enjoyed by vacationers in CCC cabins.
