Regarding Town of Maine Cemetery. Maine Township was founded in 1850 and is one of 29 townships in Cook County. The township includes portions of the Chicago suburbs of Des Plaines, Park Ridge, Niles, Glenview, Morton Grove and Rosemont.
Although Town of Maine Cemetery was chartered in 1858, it was used as a burial ground for at least 40 years before that; the oldest headstone, according to the cemetery, dates
to 1811. The cemetery has the gravesites for many pioneer families who are memorialized today in area street names, including Talcott, Higgins and Rand. Six Park Ridge mayors as well as two mayors of neighboring Des Plaines are buried here, as is a former professional baseball player, Bob Hale, who played seven seasons in the big leagues, his final one as a member of the World Series-winning 1961 New York Yankees.

3. Alfonso Iannelli. The Park Ridge Historical Society writes about artist Alfonso Iannelli. Iannelli's studios were in Park Ridge, where his famous works include the Town of Maine Cemetery gatehouse and the Pickwick Theater.
Excerpt: "Iannelli also partially designed the Gate House in the Town of Maine Cemetery. The Gate House is a Park Ridge landmark and also serves as the cemeterys office. The triangular structure shows Iannellis influence as well. The Gate House slightly resembles a church building, which also demonstrates Iannellis type of style."(Submitted on November 13, 2024, by Sean P. Flynn of Oak Park, Illinois.)
