Fort Frances in Rainy River District, Ontario — Central Canada (North America)
Recreation and Fun
| | La Verendrye Parkway | |
Prior to 1900 wealthy business men had begun to arrive to take excursions through the area for relaxation, fishing, and hunting. By the early 1900's steam boats for travel were prevalent on the upper Rainy River and Rainy Lake.
Seeing the possibility of making a steady income from the tourist the firm of Watson and Lloyd began to operate as a tourist outfitting business in 1915. They were joined by Stinson and Galbraith who ran regular excursions on Rainy Lake.
Daily excursions were offered to the beautiful wilderness areas of the region. The town's people enjoyed picnic journeys to Pither's Point and as far as the Cascades at the Northern tip of Rainy Lake.
