Inscription. The Huron River Greenway trail uses the Wheeling & Lake Erie railroad track bed. The rail line was built on fill above the original Milan Canal towpath. The section of Village Creek immediately behind this sign is the last portion of the former canal with flowing water. Captain Henry Kelley's shipyard was located on the creek bank opposite this location. The sloping ridge behind that is the Hogsback where the Edison home was built in 1842. The area between the trail and the Huron River was the site of the dry dock of S. Ruggles.
