1. Original Canoe Landing for the Mohawk River Marker

Inscription. This observation site constructed on the flood control dyke overlooks the original canoe landing area for the Mohawk village which was located here at the ox bow in the River Ouse (Grand River). At that time the river flowed past this area. The channel cut making the land opposite an island occurred later.

From its construction in 1785 until 1829 the entrance to St. Paul's Chapel of the Mohawks faced east to this landing site, the main point of entry to the village.
