1. Sammy the Fire Dog Marker

Inscription. Sammy The Fire Dog is buried near this marker, at the site of Statesville's first fire station, operating from 1876-1952. Sammy was a French Terrier who served faithfully alongside fire and police officers from 1934-1946. Upon his accidental death, a handmade casket was constructed for Sammy, who is still remembered as a beloved mascot of the Statesville Fire Department.
