Inscription.
This site was once part of the former 22,000-acre Lewis F. Moulton Ranch

Today, the original barn, bunkhouse, shed garages, and a century-old cactus, as well as some antiquated farming implements and ranching equipment, remain on the site of what was once one of the largest, most expansive, thriving ranches in South Orange County.

The buildings currently located on this ranch site are the oldest structures in Aliso Viejo and date back to the 1920s and 1930s. Their presence and the stories left behind by the Moulton family, the tenant farmers who leased the land, and those who worked on the ranch help provide a glimpse into the region's rich agricultural and ranching history of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Thank you for visiting

The older structures on the site that reflect the early farming and ranching era have been preserved and adaptively reused; agricultural crops have been reintroduced; and the design of the new buildings are historically based. In addition, interpretative paths, teaching areas, and other passive activities have been introduced.

The Aliso Viejo Ranch site contains the oldest structures in the city and represents the last physical evidence of the region’s late-19th and early 20th century agricultural past. The site is a part of what was once the vast 22,000-acre Moulton Ranch, and the remaining buildings, artifacts, and farming implements highlight the rich ranching history of South Orange County.

This site was one of the headquarters of L.F. Moulton & Co. The ranch used to have sheep and cattle in the rolling, open hills of Orange County. We invite you to step back in time with our historical images and maps as you explore the life of our former ranching pioneers.
