1. City Park Marker
Inscription. Indians were drawn to this area for protection, abundant water and wildlife. The park area was once known as a neutral ground where different tribes and fur traders could come in peace to trade their goods. The city's name came from the Natural Springs and a legend about a trapper named Wessington, who was burned by the Indians while tied to a tree in what is now the city park. Take a moment to visit the original site of Levi Hain's Cabin, Visitor Info Cabin, Grove of Burr Oak trees, Iron & Sulfur Springs and Historic Field House.
