Sebago in Cumberland County, Maine — The American Northeast (New England)
Welcome To Douglas Mountain
Elev. 1382ft
As the highest point of land for several hundred square miles, Douglas Mountain provides a beautiful view of the surrounding region. Mount Washington and the White Mountains are close on the western horizon. On some days, it is possible to see as far as the Atlantic to the east. For generations, visitors have enjoyed the beauty and solitude of Douglas Mountain.
In 1925, Dr. William Blackman contributed the land and funding, and several local residents were instrumental in having the tower built. This tower enables visitors to enjoy the panoramic scene. An inscription on a large boulder at the summit bears the words non sibi, sed omnibus "not for one, but for all," a philosophy that holds true today.
The 169 acres Douglas Mountain preserve is managed and owned by the Town of Sebago. Local stewards and community volunteers help maintain the preserve and its trails. The children of Sebago Elementary School have helped to raise funds to provide this granite vista. The citizens of Sebago wish for people to continue to enjoy the hill and its spectacular display.
Erected by Town of Sebago, Maine.
