1. Mordern Period Marker

Das Deutsche Eck, wie der Platz am Zusammenfluss von Rhein und Mosel seit dem Mittelalter wegen der dort ansässigen Ballei des Deutschen Ritterordens genannt wird, hat seine heutige Gestalt erst gegen Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts erhalten. Von 1892 bis 1897 entstand durch Geländeaufschüttung die große Landzunge, auf. der die preußische Rheinprovinz zu Ehren Kaiser Wilhelms I. auf einem monumentalen Sockel sein Reiterstandbild aufstellte. In den letzten Kriegstagen 1945 wurde die Bronzestatue zerstört, der verbliebene Denkmalsockel 1953 mit der Bundesflagge zum ,,Mahnmal der Deutschen Einheit" umgewidmet. Seit 1993 krönt den Sockel wieder eine Nachbildung der 14 Meter hohen kaiserlichen Reiterstatue. Die Bundesflagge an der Spitze der Landzunge, flankiert von den 16 Flaggen der Bundesländer an den Flussufern von Rhein und Mosel, symbolisiert die wiedererlangte deutsche Einheit.

owes to a terrace established between 1892 and 1897 on which the Prussian state inaugurate a monumental statue in honor of Emperor William I. The bronze statue was destroyed at the end of WW II. In 1953 the pedestal was flagged with the German Federal Colors and re-branded to a memorial of German unity". Since 1993 a copy of the 14 meter tall statue has again been standing on the base. The federal flag now stands at the outermost point of the terrace, flanked along the river banks by the ones of the 16 German states, thence evoking regained national unity.
