Inscription. Welcome to Rutherford Sayre Nature Garden and Natural Area. This is a special section of the larger Rutherford Sayre Park that showcases native plants of the Chicago region. A wrought-iron fence frames the Nature Garden, where native plants have been organized in deliberate groupings and visitors can sit in the shade of trees to enjoy their surroundings. The existence of the Nature Garden pre-dates the establishment of the four-acre Natural Area situated behind the Garden, which began in 2019. The surrounding Natural Area was planted with more than 170 different native species typical of wetland, prairie and savanna habitats that once dominated the Chicagoland area.

Erected by Chicago Park District.
