1. At Work on Lake Union Marker
Inscription. Duwamish fished this lake, hunted the woods along its shores and gathered a rich harvest of natural resources. Settlers used Lake Union as an industrial pond for brickyards and sawmills, boatyards and gas plants. The city grew up around this lake, a place for work and workers. Today, a wide range of businesses and industries circle the lake, providing work for Seattle men and women.
