1. Having Fun on the Lake Marker
Inscription. Until the early 20th century, Lake Union was a place to work — there was little time for recreation. As the city grew and work patterns changed, Seattle’s citizens found time to enjoy the lake’s waters and open spaces.

The city acquired the property for Lake Union Park in 2000. Seattle Parks Foundation supported the development of the park, to be enjoyed by the public in perpetuity.
