Location. 37° 13.445′ N, 77° 21.278′ W. Memorial is in Petersburg, Virginia. It can be reached from Hickory Hill Road east of Armistead Avenue, on the left when traveling east. Marker is in the woods about 1,000' from the Attack Road Trail, roughly 850' from Soldier's Spring. There is an old road trace that leads to the home site but it is not maintained. More about this memorial. The monument is located on a 20th century homesite that has been cleared. The park does not include this marker on any tour route or trail. It is, however, listed as a contributing
resource in the 2021 Cultural Landscapes Inventory Report for the Initial Assaults Battlefield. The property, now part of NPS, belonged to Mrs. W.H. Evans who erected the monument on 23 September 1960 as a commemoration of three Confederate unknowns discovered buried on her property.
Regarding To The Unknown Confederate Dead. The disposition of the Confederate remains discovered on the Evans Tract is not clear. Most Confederate remains in the area were removed to Blandford Cemetery. The area occupied by the Evans Tract was involved in the 2nd Battle of Petersburg in June 1864.
