1. Shingle Creek Marker
Inscription.
An abundance of native wildlife including endangered and protected species make their homes within the Shingle Creek Regional Park.
Shown here: A majestic Great Egret fishing for its next meal.

Early settlers harvested Cypress trees for use as building "shingles" thus giving name to the Headwaters of the Everglades "Shingle Creek".
Shown here: A spectacular example of an early settler's home is easily viewed by paddling Shingle Creek.

At the turn of the century, bridges were constructed over Shingle Creek to accommodate residents and businesses. Transporting citrus and cattle was critical for commerce. Today, new bridges are used by hikers and bicyclists, however, remnants of the old bridge abutments can still be seen along the creek.

This park is governed by City of Kissimmee and Osceola County Ordinances.
