Buckhannon in Upshur County, West Virginia — The American South (Appalachia)
Stump Lane
In 2012, the city council adopted an ordinance trading property with First Community Bank resulting in the improvement and widening of "Stump Lane." This improvement followed the bank's acquisition of several properties, that permitted the 2008 razing of several buildings, the life and efficiency of which had long expired. This project created much needed parking for bank customers, while improving access to the rear of the courthouse complex & beautifying an ugly, blighted area in the heart of our downtown. There are many examples of stellar results in Buckhannon when the public and private sectors partner!
One of the more colorful characters who maintained a laundry service during the 1920's in one of the buildings that was removed by FCB was Yee B. Doo who emigrated to Buckhannon from China, providing further evidence of the ever diverse & eclectic citizen composition of Buckhannon!
Erected 2016 by The City of Buckhannon and First Community Bank.
