1. Confederate Field Marker
Inscription. Texans served in both the Confederate and the Federal armies during the Civil War. While there were few battles on Texas soil, Dick Dowling's troops turned back Federal invasion forces at Sabine Pass in 1863, and the last land engagement of the war was fought at Palmito Ranch near Brownsville.
