Parnell Street
Formerly Great Britain Street, the street was renamed after Charles Stewart Parnell when Dublin Corporation adopted a resolution on 1 October 1911, after the erection of the statue to Parnell on the street as it meets O'Connell Street. The Rotunda Hospital, the Ambassador Theatre and the Gate Theatre are on Parnell Street itself, while the Garden of Rememberance [sic], The Dublin Writers museum and the Hugh Lane Gallery are on the north side of the Parnell Square. The James Joyce centre is immediately adjacent to Parnell Street on North Great Georges Street, while located just off the eastern end is the historic Mountjoy Square.
"That valiant effort and the martydoms which followed it finally awoke the sleeping spirit of Ireland."
Michael Collins 16 Oct 1890-22 Aug 1922[:] regarding the Easter Rising of 1916
Erected by The Deers Head (O'Reilly's).
