Mother corn is associated with the Evening Star, a revered astronomical being created by Tawa. After a series of challenges, Evening Star consented to create the first human with Morning Star As the first born child, a girl was lowered to Earth on a whirlwind, the was gifted the lodge, a sacred bundle, agricultural knowledge and weeds Thun, Pawnee women from their origins have always been skilled agriculturalist. They cultivated several varieties of com, beans and squash Over centuries they honed their skills developing techniques to produce crops rich with nutrients that supported the tribe's major dietary needs. Due to its link to the creation and ceremony corn was cultivated by variety Some varieties were holy kept in bundles and used in planting rituals.

Corn was and still is prepared for meals in several ways; large mortar and pestles can be used to grind corn into cornmeal for bread, while some dried corn is prepared to accompany stewed meat as a traditional soup. The rich agricultural additions used to produce these important crops are still being carried on today by tribe's seed carrier and the Pawnee
