Inscription. Instructions given by the proprietors of Berkely Hundred to Captain John Woodleefe, First "Captayne and Governor" of Berkeley Hundred, Virginia, were as follows: "Impr wee ordaine that the day of our ships arrival at the place assigned for platacon in the land of Virginia shall be yearly and perputualy keept holy as day of Thanksgiving to Almighty God."
