The park is the home of the Sweet Corn Festival since 1954, an annual fund raising project of the Millersport Lions Club. Founded in 1946, this community celebration has been held the week before Labor Day and officially signifies the end of summer for Buckeye Lake.

Preserving traditions such as a grand parade, square dancing, delicious food varieties and serving hot buttered sweet corn has been the hallmark of success for the Sweet Corn Festival. Most of the legends of the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville have performed in this park.

The Millersport Lions Club maintains this park for family and community recreational and social activities. Construction of the Lions Clubhouse in 1964, provided residents with a banquet hall that also serves as a senior citizens center.

Historic Lions Park was originally the site of the Mast Homestead. Beginning with the relocation of the Charles Holliday covered bridge in 1981, the Millersport Lions Club took on the civic responsibility of preserving local history by moving and restoring local landmarks to historic Lions Park. Other items on display are the Slater gas filling station from route 37, the first Walnut Township building, the cabin off an old canal boat, the old food store in Millersport and stone used in the Minthorn Lock located on the north side of the lake.
