Ute and Paiute people believe mountain peaks are places of power, surrounded by unobstructed views and close to the creator. These sacred landmarks embody traditional knowledge passed down through generations

Tall mountains also gather clouds that bring rain. In the Hopi worldview, Patuwaquatsi means "water is life." Offerings at shrines yield rain clouds that recharge springs. The Hopi people and land are inseparable.
