"Thesitantly moved toward the viewing platform, climbed the steps, and looked out. There before me was a scene as impressive as any World Heritage site I had ever seen, and I had experienced numerous ones. There were unending lines of curves, heights, and breadths of basket after basket of Mother Earth molded and shaped into what was originally-and still should be-a living, revered natural sanctuary. Inhaling deeply, I tried to take in what I was seeing, what I was feeling. At first, I was so proud. This is magnificent. This place, this structure, was built by my ancestors-that is, Native Americans in general. They loved this place, repeatedly returned to this place on pilgrimages bringing valuables from throughout the United States, worshiped at this place, honored our Creator here, and preserved this sacred site."
