Inscription.  Many of the large pueblos constructed along the Rio Gande were built over a long period of time. New households were connected to previous construction and eventually surrounded a central plaza. As other people joined the community, they constructed their own room blocks and plaza areas, much in the same way that neighborhoods develop within today's communities.
