Oosterpark
Landschapsarchitect Leonard Anthony Springer (1855-1940)
Opdrachtgever Gemeente Amsterdam
Aanleg 1890-1896

Oosterpark
Landscape Architect
Leonard Anthony Springer (1855-1940)
Commissioned by City of Amsterdam
Years of construction 1890-1896

With the Oosterpark, Springer designed a neighbourhood park that was inspired by nature in the middle of a densely populated residential area. The design, in English landscape style, has wide fields interspersed with wooded groves and a whimsically shaped pond. In order to lay the northern part of the Oosterpark, the old Oosterbegraafplaats (cemetery) needed to be removed. A new cemetery, the Nieuwe Ooster was built in Watergraafsmeer (district of Amsterdam).
