1. Emanuels Church Marker
Tradition states that the church was founded in 1723, seventeen years before the Moravians arrived in Nazareth. Though that date has yet to be proven, it is clear that Emmanuelsville was among the earliest church congregations in the region. The oldest legible grave marker is of Nicholas Heil, dated February 14, 1760. The oldest existing church record book dates back to 1765. A deed from 1765 mentions both a church and a schoolhouse on the property. By 1776, the building used as the original church was in such a state of dilapidation that services could no longer be held there. Between 1776 and 1850 church services were held in the schoolhouse. The oldest part of the present church structure was built in 1850. Half of the financing for the pipe organ installed in 1910 was provided by Andrew Carnegie. Until 1969 the church served both Lutheran and Reformed congregations.
It is now home to Emmanuels Lutheran Church.
