1. In Memory of Leroy H. Imus Marker
Inscription.
This sculpture memorializes Sterling Heights Police Officer Leroy H. Imus — Badge Number 21, end of watch Dec. 2, 1971.

This sculpture, Lifetree, symbolizes changes and growth over time and how life can change in an instant. The blue glass represents the officer, together with fellow officers and the community, reflecting how a police officer's dedication and sacrifice can impact another's life.

On Dec. 2, 1971, Officer Leroy Imus, age 32, was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver during a traffic stop on the M-53 Expressway. A devoted family man, Officer Imus left behind a wife and four young children.

Officer Imus was a U.S. Navy veteran and decorated officer earning multiple service awards and was well-liked by his fellow officers. His ultimate sacrifice for the residents of Sterling Heights will never be forgotten.

A resolution was passed by City Council on January 18, 1972 to dedicate this 10-acre park as the Leroy Imus Park in his honor.
