1. The Liberty, Missouri Juneteenth Legacy Marker
Inscription. This monument commemorates "Juneteenth," a celebration of the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation on June 19, 1865, slaves received word that they were officially free, thus we celebrate "Juneteenth" on June 19th every year as African American Independence Day. Celebrations in Liberty began in 1989.
 
Erected 1993 by Liberty Juneteenth Committee.
