Founded in 1891, The New York Botanical Garden is a National Historic Landmark and one of the world's most beautiful places to enjoy and learn about plants. The Garden's 250-acre grounds are home to the nation's premier Victorian glasshouse, 50 acres of native forest, and 48 gardens and living plant collections that contain a greater diversity of plants than you will see at any other public garden in the United States. Two gardens for children provide hands-on experiences with the natural world. Exquisite landscapes delight and inspire visitors in every season. Spectacular flower shows and exhibitions, continuing education courses, workshops, and public events offer special insights into the world of plants.

The Garden is an international leader in plant science. Researchers work in remote locations around the globe and in laboratories on the Garden grounds to study plants and their evolution, understand their habitats and ecology, unlock their molecular and genetic secrets, and explore their potential for a wide variety of uses. This scientific work advances efforts to improve human health, develop sustainable forestry
