Inscription.
The flowering cherries in the collection are beautiful specimen trees that bring color and fragrance to the Garden in the spring.

There are many flowering cherries (Prunus spp.) planted amidst the spruces, pines, and firs of the Arthur and Janet Ross Conifer Arboretum. Many have grown here for decades, complementing the evergreen foliage of the surrounding conifers. Some of the selections in the Ross Conifer Arboretum are quite large, a testament to their age.

A traditional fixture of Japanese landscapes, flowering cherries have been bred into hundreds of cultivars. These Yoshino cherries (Prunus Χ yedoensis) are a hybrid of two Japanese species. In Japan and Washington, D.C. the flowering of these wonderful trees in early spring is an annual celebration.
