Blacksmith and carpenter shops are common finds on historic, rural farms. With no store to run to every time something was needed, most rural farmers would have been skilled enough to create their own rudimentary furniture and hand tools, or make repairs to equipment and buildings.

The workshops at Mabee Farm are still used in the repair and maintenance of the property. However, their most important use is as an educational tool. Blacksmith and woodworking demonstrations are a vital part of our school programming and visitor experience.

While not original to the property. these outbuildings are similar fo workshops which would have been used on the farm. The blacksmith shop is a c.1800 historic structure from Delmar, NY. The carpenter's shop is a replica. Both buildings were placed here in the early 2000s.
