You are standing where the very first section of bike trail was constructed in the Miami Valley. From this point forward a regional trail network has grown to over 375 miles.
To build the first mile of trail, the City of Troy worked with The Miami Conservancy District and The Troy Foundation to develop the trail on top of levee along the Great Miami River.
The first mile of trail
Built at eight foot wide and almost three-quarters of a mile long. It was built along the top of the Morgan Ditch levee, crossing Harrison Street and Elm Street, and along the south side of the Great Miami River levee stopping at the Adams Street Bridge.
Popular from the start
Completed in 1973, the first paved trail was getting steady use before its completion could be announced.
How was it funded?
The Troy Foundation contributed $9,725 and the City of Troy's Beautification Committee provided $1,562.
Great Miami River Recreation Trail Guide

Tale of the Trails
Over 375 miles of paved, multi-use recreation trails stretch across southwest Ohio. The trails are a tremendous transportation, economic, and recreation asset for all.
The trails travel to 40 communities in 11 Ohio counties. They connect cities, counties, schools, parks, historic landmarks, and area attractions.
People who enjoy using the trails make hundreds of thousands of visits each year for bicycling, running, walking, fishing, and even bird watching. You will travel next to meadows, past scenic countryside, through forested areas and into city centers. This great system of trails enhances wellness and quality of life for residents and visitors.
All trails are free and open to the public every day of the year, from dawn until dusk.
