Commissioned in 1994, the Oklahoma Mesonet is unique in its capability to measure a large variety of environmental conditions at so many sites across an area as large as Oklahoma. These observations have enabled the creation of millions of decision-making products for local, state, and federal agencies. public safety officials. growers. ranchers, students of all ages, researchers, electric utilities, weather forecasters. and private citizens. The Oklahoma Mesonet is considered the gold standard in surface observing networks.
This station is named in honor of Dr. Kenneth C. Crawford, a pioneer of the Oklahoma Mesonet. Dr. Crawford served as the Director of the Oklahoma Climatological Survey from 1989 to 2009. His commitment to

3. Dr. Kenneth C. Crawford (1943-2014)
Dr. Crawford (second row, fifth from left, in plaid shirt) poses with students at Pusan National University in South Korea, where he oversaw the modernization of the country's meteorological agency from 2009-13. He previously spent 27 years with the National Weather Service before joining the University of Oklahoma in 1989. Crawford also was Oklahoma's state climatologist.
