Inscription.  
Dit grote pand verrees in 1772 op de plaats van twee middeleeuwse huizen. De hardstenen gevel is opgetrokken in de Lodewijk XIV-stijl. De lichtpaarse kleur van de ruitjes was toen nieuw. Het tot dan toe gebruikte groene glas liet veel minder licht door. Vanaf 1804 werd het pand bewoond door de befaamde waterbouwkundige Arie Blanken (1766-1824) die onder andere de Stolwijkersluis ten zuiden van de stad heeft ontworpen. Blanken was vanaf 1816 hoofdingenieur van de waterstaat in Zuid-Holland en als zodanig betrokken bij de voorbereiding van de droogmaking van de Zuidplaspolder.

(English translation:)
This large building was built in 1772 on the site of two medieval houses. The bluestone facade was built in the Louis XIV style. The light purple colour of the panes was new at the time. The green glass used until then let in much less light. From 1804 the building was inhabited by the famous hydraulic engineer Arie Blanken (1766-1824) who designed, among other things, the Stolwijkersluis south of the city. From 1816 Blanken was chief engineer of the water board in South Holland and as such was involved
