Members of the Town Company of Tullahoma
| | (1851 - 1858) | |
Inscription.
Thomas was involved with the sale of much of the land in the Tullahoma area. Pierce planned, surveyed and drew maps of original plot of Tullahoma and was instrumental in moving the Coffee/Franklin Co. line in order that all of the town would lie in Coffee Co. He attended West Point for two years where he ranked at top of his class. He served as an officer in the Mexican-American War and in the Civil War. It is believed that he was the first commissioned officer from Tennessee to be killed in battle.
Thomas and Pierce were the sons of Joseph Islee Anderson who bore arms through the whole of the American Revolution; in 1791 Pres. Washington appointed him a judge in the Southwest Territory, now Tennessee; in 1797 he was appointed one of Tennessee's first U.S. senators and served for 18 years; and in 1815 was appointed Comptroller of the U.S. Treasury.
