1. All Saints Cemetery Marker

Inscription. Consecrated in 1923, the East side of All Saints Cemetery was later expanded to the West and consecrated by Samuel Cardinal Stritch on June 13, 1954. All Saints Cemetery is noted for the design of roads converging in concentric circles. The first Archdiocesan Cemeteries Interment Chapel, used for indoor committal services, was completed in 1961. The new Interment Chapel Office features a 40 foot carillon bell tower. This complex achieved environmentally friendly "green" status with the inclusion of a vegetated roof and the maximizing of natural light.

Immaculate Heart of Mary Garden Mausoleum, dedicated by Francis Cardinal Geoepe on July 10, 2001, includes garden crypts arranged symmetrically surrounding a seventy-five foot long black granite fountain under a sky-lit, glass canopy. The tranquil Garden Mausoleum has both single and double crypt availability, as well as niches for the cremated remains of the human body.

Regarding All Saints Cemetery. Cardinal George, who is referenced on this marker, died in 2015 and, according to his wishes, was buried in the family plot here at All Saints. That gravesite is on the side of this cemetery, through the other entrance. Most previous leaders of the Archdiocese of Chicago were buried at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Hilside, about 15 miles south of here.

Among the more than 130,000 people buried at this 257-acre cemetery are baseball broadcaster Harry Caray and DePaul's longtime men's basketball coach Ray Meyer.
