Regarding St. Catharines Honour Roll - Northwest Resistance. The 1885 Rebellion, mostly within modern-day Saskatchewan, cost 80-90 lives; almost half on the government side, and over half on the Metis and First Nations allies side. In addition, 9 on the latter side were hanged, most for the murder of non-combatants at Frog Lake, in modern Alberta; and one, Luis Riel, for treason. This was the largest mass execution in Canadian history.
In 2024, a monument to Private Watson was moved from City Hall's lawn to a nearby cemetery, after anti-colonialism protests.
