Inscription. Did you know Bison used to live in Ohio? They'd graze in the prairies and trample vegetation as they moved, which helped keep prairie habitats open and sunny. To get to their food and water, bison traveled along the same trails each year, which came to be known as "buffalo traces." These traces were also used by American Indians and settlers, and some of the earliest roads were made from them.
