The Historic Robinson Home
At the heart of Rokeby Museum is the family that cherished this place as its home.
Throughout the Robinsons' ownership of Rokeby, several additions and changes were made to the house. In 1814, Thomas R. Robison expanded the late 18th-century farmhouse. With 5 bays and a tall roofline, this prominent addition highlights the growing wealth of the family.
A second addition, where the roofline changes on the far right of the house, was done by George Gilpin Robinson in 1893. The room on the first floor housed the town clerk's office; the room above was used as a bedroom.
2021
In 2021, Rokeby Museum's Preservation Sponsor, PC Construction, worked with our staff to repair the porches on the house. Using photos from the collection we learned the family changed the foundation of the front porch, likely to stabilize it. As part of our restoration we opted to maintain the features of the porch from the last generation who lived at Rokeby.
