Joyce S. Hebert worked with her husband, Gary Hebert in the fight to save the Plaquemine Lock and a portion of historic Bayou Plaquemine. Their efforts led to the Lock and bayou being named a National and a state Historic Site. She later founded the Friends of the Plaquemine Lock Historic Site Inc and was Charter President for 7 years. She worked tirelessly to keep the Lock open to the public and educate others about its significance.
