Maxine Reese Park
| | Jimmy Carter National Historical Park | |
"Maxine Reese is one of the most extraordinary citizens Plains, Georgia, has ever had. She was instrumental in my political campaigns and elections and since my return home from Washington has been key in promoting the quality of life in the city of Plains." Jimmy Carter
Ms. Reese was a source of inspiration not only to a former President but also to all her neighbors. She notably served as the manager in Plains for Jimmy Carter's presidential campaign. Reese also played a significant role in influencing Congress to bring the National Park Service to Plains. In acknowledgment of her dedicated service, in March 2000 the people of Plains ceremoniously renamed the city park in her honor.
