Inscription.
A.   South Hill, Nundawaho is the real origin of the Seneca People or the “Great Hill People.” Native People would come to the Vine Valley area, climb South Hill and Bare Hill and light fires as part of the Genundowa Ceremony.
B.   Bare Hill, or Genundowa is the legendary origin of the “Great Hill People,” the lighting of the Lake Ceremony was revived in 1953 and is held Saturday before Labor Day each year.
C.   Vine Valley was named for wild grapes found by settlers. Vine Valley is well known as a good place to fish.
D.   The first steamboat launched on Canandaigua Lake was the Lady of the Lake in 1827. The boats picked up passengers and goods in Woodville and up to 65 other stops.
E.   Whiskey Point was the site of a whiskey still, which provided a profitable and widespread business in the early 1900’s.
F.   Seneca Point was settled by Gameil Wilder in 1788-89. Many orchards belonging to Native Americans were seen there. It was a popular steamboat stop and a hotel was operated there in the 1870’s and 1880’s.
