1. Upper Canada Heritage Trail - Marker
Inscription. The Erie and Ontario Railway line, constructed in 1854, was built to compete with the Welland Canal for transporting goods and passengers across the peninsula. The railway stopped carrying passengers after 1945 and eventually rail service was discontinued in the late 1950's. The trail from here south goes past the old Rand estate with its stately walls and the runs of a private rail stop. The photo shows the train as is makes it way down King St. past Queen St. The trail continues along Concession 1 and ends at York Rd. Enjoy this beautiful trail.

Preservation of this trail is a legacy project of the Niagara-on-the-Lake Sesquicentennial Committee

The trail crosses many roads. Take extra caution at road crossings. Be courteous to trail users.
