Spring House
Springs are an important source of freash water and, prior to the implementation of modern well systems, were one of the primary ways of ensuring fresh and clean water for use in homes like the one here lived in by the Snook family.
Spring houses were an important part of agricultural landscapes and function throughout the 17th and 18th centuries. Built over natural ground fed springs, these small structures "housed" and protected the source of the spring from animals, pollutants and other debris.
