Beth Williams earned her D.V.M. at Purdue University in 1977 and moved on to Colorado State University for a residency in veterinary pathology and a Ph.D.
Soon after she arrived at Colorado State, she provided science with the first description of an important new wildlife malady - chronic wasting disease. She continued to be the leading expert on this disease throughout her career.
In 1980. Beth married Tom Thorne, and In 1982 she took a position as a professor in the Department of Veterinary Sciences at the University of Wyoming, beginning one of the most productive husband-and-wife collaborations in the history of American conservation.
Beth worked on key disease issues that faced black-footed ferrets, and she researched diseases that affect bighorn sheep, mountain goats, mule deer, elk, white-tailed deer, pronghorns, moose, bison, gyrfalcons, red-tailed hawks, white pelicans, coyotes, prairie dogs, and toads.
Beth and Tom shared a unique expertise and commitment to wildlife. It was a combination that is difficult to find and impossible
