La Presó de Pilats
Al nostre darrera trobem la Torre del Pretori, una de les cantonades del Fòrum Provincial construït el segle I dC. Al llarg de la història ha tingut diferents usos, com castell medieval, caserna de l'època moderna o presó provincial des de mitjans del segle XIX, quan es comença a anomenar Presó de Pilats.

Durant la Guerra Civil (1936-1939) continuà funcionant com a centre de reclusió. Després de l'entrada de l'exèrcit franquista a la ciutat, s'hi empresonaren més de 1.350 persones, quan la seva capacitat màxima era de 110. Durant 10 anys passaren prop de 6.500 repressaliats del franquisme, i més de 60 moriren a conseqüència de les inhumanes condicions de vida.

Des de l'actual sala del Sarcòfag d'Hipòlit, reservada als condemnats a mort, entre 1939 i 1945 varen sortir més de 650 presos per ser afusellats al turó de l'Oliva.

Durante 10 años pasaron cerca de 6.500 represaliados del franquismo. Más de 60 murieron a consecuencia de las inhumanas condiciones de vida. De la actual sala del Sarcófago de Hipólito, reservada a los condenados a muerte, entre 1939 y 1945 salieron más de 650 presos que fueron fusilados en el Turó de l'Oliva.

The Pilatos Prison
The monument behind us, the Praetorium Tower, was one of the roman corners of the Provincial Forum, built in the 1st century AD. Throughout history it had had different purposes, such as medieval castle, barracks of the modern era or provisional prison since the middle of the 19th century, when it came to be known as Pilatos Prision.

During the Civil War (1936-1939) it continued to serve as a detention centre. After the entry of Francoist army in the city, more than 1.350 people were imprisoned, when it was only meant to hold 110 inmates. For over 10 years, 6.500 people were victims

of the repression and more than 60 prisoners died as a consequence of the poor and inhuman living conditions. The current Hippolytus Sarcophagus Hall was a reserved area for the condemned to death, place where more than 650 prisoners were shot at Turó de l'Oliva, between 1939 and 1945.
