1. The Napers & Naperville Marker

Inscription. Town founder Joseph Naper recognized the importance of geographic location when he laid claim to his homestead along the west branch of the DuPage River. The new settlement benefited from forests to the north and west, prairies to the south, and the DuPage River that provided fresh water and a power source. Several well-traveled Native American trails also intersected the area.

At this crossroads, Naper and his neighbors quickly established a thriving community. They created educational institutions, churches, cultural organizations, shops, businesses, and a post office.

Erected 2010 by Naper Settlement.
