A Tribute to Black Lives
The silhouette of a Black woman, with the names in her natural hair of unarmed Black people killed due senseless violence, and enslaved people of West Hartford's history, is above jars of earth that spell the word Freedom. These jars are reminiscent of the jars of soil in the Equal Justice Initiative Museum - otherwise referred to as The Lynching Museum. Together, they draw a parallel between the impunity of the contemporary killers of unarmed Black people, enslavers from West Hartford's history, and lynchers of the Jim Crow era of American history.
